Toyota MR2 (AW11) Wheel Fitment Guide

White Toyota MR2 (AW11) Supercharger parked, fitted with aftermarket mesh wheels

The Toyota MR2 (AW11), Toyota’s first mid-engine production car, ran from June 1984 to October 1989. The Supercharger (SC) trim arrived with the August 1986 facelift, pairing a 4A-GZE 1.6L supercharged engine with pop-up headlights, a rear spoiler and the louvered engine cover that make the later cars easy to spot. Fitment data for a car this old is thin on the ground compared to the popular 90s coupes, and the sources we found don’t fully agree with each other. Here’s what we verified, and where they diverge.

OEM Wheel Specifications

Trim / Engine OEM Rim Size Bolt Pattern Offset (ET) OEM Tire Size
1.6 / 1.6 Turbo AW11 (naturally aspirated and SC grades, JDM) 14×5.5J 4×100 ET39 or ET35 (sources disagree — see note) 185/60R14
G / G-Limited Supercharger (staggered setup, per reproduced dealer catalog) Not independently confirmed 4×100 Not independently confirmed 195/60R14 front / 205/60R14 rear

Bolt pattern: 4×100 is the one figure that holds up across every source we checked, including a wheel-fitment aggregator database and a Japanese hub-centric spacer product built specifically for the AW10/AW11 chassis. We’re treating this as confirmed.

Hub bore lands in the same narrow range across both of those sources — 54.1mm from the aggregator database, 54mm from the spacer product’s stated fitment. The two are close enough that we’re confident the hub bore is in the 54mm class, but we could not find a manufacturer source that states the exact decimal, so treat 54.1mm as an approximation rather than a confirmed exact figure.

Offset is where our sources disagree. One wheel-fitment database lists the OEM wheel as 5.5Jx14 ET39; a separate fitment aggregator lists the same generation at ET35. We were not able to find a manufacturer spec sheet to break the tie, so both figures are shown above rather than picked arbitrarily. We also could not independently confirm the rim width or offset for the Supercharger’s staggered 195/205 setup — the only source we found for that tire size is a reproduced dealer catalog page, not a wheel-fitment database, so we’re not treating the SC-specific rim spec as confirmed.

What This Means for Aftermarket Fitment

4×100 is a common older-Toyota/Honda-era bolt pattern, so most aftermarket wheels sold for that pattern will bolt on. The practical fitment questions on a 40-year-old chassis are almost always offset and hub bore, not the bolt pattern itself:

  • Because our two hub bore sources land close together (54mm / 54.1mm) but don’t match to the decimal, hub-centric rings sized for a 54.1mm bore are the safer starting point — measure your own hub before ordering if precision matters for your setup.
  • With OEM offset itself unsettled between ET35 and ET39, and no confirmed figure for the Supercharger’s staggered setup, we’d treat any offset claim for this chassis with more caution than usual — check fender clearance physically rather than relying on a single source’s number.

Wheels Currently in Stock

We carry 4×100 wheels suited to this era of Toyota, including mesh-style designs like the BBS wheels pictured on the car above. Check current stock and message us if you don’t see a fitment-confirmed set for your specific AW11 trim — we source in Japan on request.

What We Could Not Verify

  • The exact OEM offset — one source states ET39, another states ET35, and we could not find a manufacturer source to confirm which (or whether both are correct for different production years within the AW11’s 1984-1989 run).
  • Rim width and offset specific to the Supercharger’s staggered 195/60R14 front / 205/60R14 rear setup. We found tire size data in a reproduced dealer catalog page, but no independent wheel-fitment database confirms the rim width or offset that goes with it.
  • The exact hub bore decimal (54.0mm vs. 54.1mm) — see note above.
  • The wheels pictured on the car in this article are aftermarket mesh-style wheels, not the factory alloy described in the table above. We’re identifying them as BBS based on the design; no maker’s mark was visible in the photos we worked from.
