Introduction
The G80 is the M3 that broke with BMW tradition. After roughly two decades on 5×120, BMW moved to 5×112 with a 66.6 mm hub bore — which is, precisely, Mercedes-Benz’s specification. No E46, E90 or F80 wheel will fit a G80, and the used-wheel pool it draws on is now shared with AMG, Audi and Volkswagen rather than with older BMWs.

The offsets match front to rear — the diameters do not. Both axles run ET20, but the factory pairs a smaller-diameter front wheel with a larger-diameter rear: 18-inch front with 19-inch rear, or 19-inch front with 20-inch rear. Staggered diameter is unusual and it means you cannot simply buy four wheels of one size.
What this means for wheel shopping
Two things changed at once. The pattern moved from 5×120 to 5×112, and the hub bore moved from 72.6 mm to 66.6 mm. Both are Mercedes figures. In practice:
- Older BMW wheels do not fit. E46, E90 and F80 M3 wheels are all 5×120
- Mercedes-AMG wheels share the pattern and bore — subject to offset and width, which differ substantially between the two cars
- Audi and Volkswagen are also 5×112, but commonly use a 57.1 mm bore and will not centre correctly without the right arrangement

- Square setups are possible but change the car’s balance — the factory diameter stagger exists for a reason

Section 3: Selection Tips and Cautions
- 5×112, not 5×120. This is the single most important fact about G80 wheel fitment
- 66.6 mm hub bore — the Mercedes figure, not BMW’s traditional 72.6 mm
- Check diameter as well as width. Front and rear are different sizes from the factory
- Audi/VW 5×112 wheels are usually 57.1 mm bore and will not centre on this hub without the correct arrangement
- 140 Nm torque, lug bolts, M14 thread on current BMWs — confirm your car’s bolt specification before ordering
- Carbon-ceramic brakes restrict minimum diameter further
