BLITZ is one of Japan’s longest-running tuning brands, with roots in turbo tuning that predate its current identity as a full-line tuning company.
Founded 1981, Built on Turbo Boost
Blitz Co., Ltd. (株式会社ブリッツ) is headquartered in Nishitokyo, Tokyo, and its founding is generally dated to June 1981. The company’s early reputation was built on turbo compression work, with its first notable achievements reportedly using Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch (KKK) turbochargers, before it broadened into the general tuning company it is today — boost gauges and controllers, supercharger kits, body kits and full exhaust and suspension lines.
Motorsport Visibility
BLITZ has a long-standing presence in Japanese motorsport and drift culture. In D1GP, the brand has been represented by Ken Nomura’s BLITZ-liveried ER34 Skyline drift car, and the brand has also been associated with drag-racing programs built around the Toyota Supra. More recently, BLITZ’s branding has become familiar to a much wider audience through its prominent placement on the main character’s Toyota 86 in the “MF Ghost” racing manga and anime, with the real car built to those exact specifications shown at Tokyo Auto Salon.
What We Could Not Verify
- We found conflicting information about current company leadership: one corporate-registry source lists a representative director named Kobayashi Jun’ichi (小林潤一), while an English-language secondary source names a different person, Satoshi Yamaguchi, as representative director. We have not been able to resolve this discrepancy from a single authoritative source, so we are not stating either name as confirmed current leadership.
- We could not confirm a named individual founder for the company beyond the 1981 founding date itself.
- We could not independently verify the full extent of the company’s early KKK-turbo-era achievements beyond secondary-source mentions.
Spotted in the Wild
This profile was prompted by a Honda Integra Type R (DC5) that came through our stock fitted with a BLITZ air cleaner, alongside 5ZIGEN AW wheels, a FUJITSUBO muffler and TEIN coilovers. As with all of our “as described” vehicle write-ups, the part fitment is reported as described by the seller rather than independently measured by us. See our Honda Integra Type R DC5 Wheel Fitment Guide for the wheel and fitment side of that car.
