The Short Version
- Ordinary DA6, DA8, DB7 and DB8 grades are 4×100 with a 56 mm bore.
- The four-door DB8 Type R is 5×114.3 with a 64 mm bore. Same chassis code, different hub.
- So the chassis code does not tell you the bolt pattern on a DB8. The grade does.
- This is exactly the DC2 story repeated on the four-door car.
DB8 Is Two Different Cars
We have written before about the DC2 Integra, where an ordinary car is 4×100 and the Type R is not. The four-door DB8 does the same thing, and it does it under a single chassis code.
An ordinary DB8 — the Si VTEC, the SiR-G, the ESi — reads 4×100 with a 56 mm bore. The DB8 Type R reads 5×114.3 with a 64 mm bore.
Both cars say DB8 on the plate. If you are buying wheels from a listing that gives you the chassis code and nothing else, you do not have enough information.
The earlier DA6, DA8 and DB7 cars are all 4×100 on 56 mm, including the XSi and RSi grades with the B16A. So the five-lug hub arrives with the Type R and nothing else.
Factory Specification
| Generation | Chassis | Period | Grade | Wheel | Tyre | PCD / Holes / Bore |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3rd (DA) | E-DA6 | 1989.04–1992.10 | 3-door 1.6 XSi 5MT | 14×5.5J +45 | 195/60R14 | 100 / 4 / 56 |
| 3rd (DA) | E-DA6 | 1990.08–1992.10 | 3-door 1.6 RSi 5MT | 14×5.5J +45 | 195/60R14 | 100 / 4 / 56 |
| 3rd (DA) | E-DA8 | 1989.04–1992.10 | 4-door 1.6 XSi 5MT | 14×5.5J +45 | 195/60R14 | 100 / 4 / 56 |
| 4th (DB) | E-DB7 | 1993.07–1995.09 | 4-door 1.8 ESi 5MT | 14×5.5J +45 | 185/65R14 | 100 / 4 / 56 |
| 4th (DB) | E-DB8 | 1993.07–1995.09 | 4-door 1.8 Si VTEC 5MT | 15×6J +45 | 195/55R15 | 100 / 4 / 56 |
| 4th (DB) | E-DB8 | 1995/96–2001 | 4-door Type R 5MT | 15×6J +45 | 195/55R15 | 114.3 / 5 / 64 |
Note the wheel size does not help you either. The ordinary Si VTEC and the Type R both run 15×6J at +45 on 195/55R15. Only the hub differs.
Four Patterns Across One Model Name
Taken together with the DC2, the Integra name covers four different hubs:
- 4×100 / 56 mm — DA6, DA8, DB7, ordinary DB8, ordinary DC2.
- 4×114.3 — DC2 Type R, 96-spec.
- 5×114.3 / 64 mm — DC2 Type R 98-spec, DB8 Type R.
- 5×114.3 / 64 mm again on the DC5.
The only reliable method is to count the studs on the car in front of you and, if there are four, measure across the circle. 100 and 114.3 look similar enough at a glance to catch people out.
Sizing
The four-lug cars at 14×5.5J or 15×6J and +45 sit deep. The practical window is 15×6.5J to 16×7J in the +38 to +45 range on 4×100, which is a very well-supplied pattern.
The DB8 Type R shares its hub with the whole Honda performance family — the EK9, the DC5, the EP3, the Accord Euro R and the S2000. That is a large pool.
56 mm rings on the four-lug cars, 64 mm on the Type R.
Importing
The DA generation ran 1989–1993 and the DB from 1993. Everything through August 2001 is eligible for US import now, which is effectively the whole run including the DB8 Type R.
North America got the DA and DB as the Acura Integra, but never the four-door Type R.
What We Could Not Verify
- The DB1, the 1991–92 four-door 1.8 ESi that preceded the DB7. We could not locate its wheel page. Every adjacent grade is 4×100 on 56 mm and we would expect the same, but we did not read it.
