The Short Version
- Forged, one-piece. NISMO states it in its own spec sheets.
- NISMO does not say who makes it. RAYS is listed as a sales outlet, not as the manufacturer.
- It is sold in order windows, not from stock. Miss the window and you wait.
- JWL and VIA on the road-wheel series — but the tuner and competition sizes are not road legal, for a different reason.
Who Actually Makes It
Every English-language source will tell you RAYS manufactures the LM GT4. We went looking for a primary statement and did not find one.
What NISMO’s own product pages do say is under 取扱店舗 — authorised handling outlets. For the LM GT4, that list is: NISMO Omori Factory, NISMO Performance Center, 株式会社レイズ (RAYS Co., Ltd.), and three NISMO agent shops.
That is a sales channel listing. It tells you RAYS sells the wheel. It does not say RAYS makes it.
Separately, a trade-press interview with a named RAYS executive establishes that RAYS has supplied OEM performance wheels to Nissan since the R35 GT-R in 2007, and to Nissan’s Super GT GT500 programme. That makes RAYS Nissan’s general wheel partner. It still does not name the LM GT4.
So our position: RAYS is very probably the manufacturer, and no primary source we could find says so. Retailers marketing the wheel as “RAYS Engineering × NISMO” are using retailer branding, not quoting either company.
Construction and Sizes
NISMO’s own spec sheets state all current LM GT4 and EVO variants as アルミ合金製、鍛造1ピースタイプ — forged, one-piece aluminium alloy. All fitments are PCD 114.3, 5 holes.

An 8.9 kg 18×9J forged wheel is a genuinely good number, and it is published rather than claimed vaguely — which is more than several brands manage.
You Cannot Just Buy One
This is the part that catches people, and it explains the used prices.
The 18-inch and EVO 19-inch pages carry a stated order window — the current one ran 24 April to 31 July 2026. NISMO takes orders during the window and produces a batch. Outside it, you are waiting for the next one.
The 19-inch Competition size is marked 生産廃止 — discontinued outright, and explicitly excluded from warranty.
So a used set in the size you want is not just convenient, it may be the only option for months. That is the mechanism behind the market, and it is worth understanding before you decide a used price is unreasonable.
JWL, VIA, and the Thing That Is Not About JWL
NISMO’s series-wide caution page states that the NISMO aluminium road wheel series conforms to JWL (and JWL-T) technical standards and has passed VIA mark testing through the Japanese light-alloy wheel testing council.
Separately — and this is a different issue — the tuner size and competition size fitments are explicitly flagged as not road legal because the wheel protrudes beyond the fender. That is a vehicle-fitment problem, not a wheel-certification problem. The wheel passed its tests; your car’s arches did not.
Worth separating those two things clearly, because “not road legal” gets repeated without the reason and people assume the wheel is uncertified. It is not.
The Earlier Wheels
The LM GT1 and LM GT2 — associated with the 400R and earlier GT-Rs — we found only on secondary blogs and retailer pages. No NISMO-official page describes them, and we could not verify the production numbers or dates those sources give.
Similarly there is no “LM GT4+” on NISMO’s current site, and we could not verify the white 40th Anniversary edition from anything but retailer listings.
If you are buying an LM GT1 or GT2 as a period-correct piece, you are buying on the strength of the physical wheel and its markings, not on documentation. That is a normal position for a thirty-year-old part; it is just worth knowing that is where you stand.
What We Could Not Verify
- A primary-source statement that RAYS manufactures the LM GT4. The claim is universal and unsourced.
- LM GT1 and LM GT2 specifications from any NISMO-official page.
- Any “LM GT4+”.
- The 40th Anniversary white edition, found only in retailer listings.
- Any NISMO counterfeit-warning statement for wheels. We looked; NISMO does not appear to publish one. (TRD does, for its own products — different company, noted only so the two are not confused.)
