Toyota Crown Wheel Fitment Guide (S130 / S140): The Body Decides the Offset

The Short Version

  • 5×114.3 on a 60 mm bore across the S130 and S140, every body and grade.
  • The offset splits by body, not by generation: Sedan grades at +27, Hardtop and Royal Saloon grades at +50.
  • Athlete existed on the S130, from 1990 — earlier than most people think.
  • No turbo Crown grade exists in the database for this era, and the S120 is absent entirely.

Twenty-Three Millimetres of Offset, Decided by Body

The Crown of this era was sold as a Sedan and a Hardtop simultaneously, on overlapping chassis codes, for years. The wheels are not the same.

Body / grade tier Wheel Offset Tyre
Sedan — Deluxe, Super Deluxe, Super Saloon Extra, diesel, 4.0 V8 14×5.5J +27 185SR14
Sedan — Royal Saloon and Royal Saloon G 15×6J +50 195/65R15
Hardtop — Super Select, Royal Touring, Royal Saloon, Royal Saloon G 15×6J +50 —
Hardtop — 3.0 Athlete L (MS135, 1990.08–1991.10) 15×6.5J +50 205/65R15
All rows 5×114.3 with a 60 mm bore. Read from the Japanese factory wheel database.

Twenty-three millimetres between +27 and +50 is a great deal. A wheel off a Royal Saloon will sit almost an inch further in on a base Sedan — and a base Sedan wheel on a Royal Saloon will stand well proud of the arch.

Both bolt up perfectly, because the bolt pattern and bore never change. That is exactly the situation where people get caught: nothing about the fitting process tells you anything is wrong.

The Chassis Code Will Mislead You on Year

A detail worth having. Toyota kept selling the older Sedan body under S130-era chassis codes alongside the visually newer S140 Hardtop. We found E-GS130 Sedan rows dated as late as 1995.

So an S130 chassis code does not mean a 1980s car, and a listing that reasons from code to year will be wrong. Read the dated production window, not the code.

Athlete Started on the S130

The Athlete badge is usually associated with the later Crowns. The database has a 3.0 Athlete L on chassis E-MS135, dated August 1990 to October 1991 — an S130 Hardtop.

Its 15×6.5J at +50 on 205/65R15 is the widest S130/S140 fitment we found. Half an inch wider than every other grade, and the only one on a 205-section tyre.

The Turbo Grade That Is Not There

We went looking for turbocharged and twin-turbo Crown grades of this era and searched every grade name on both Crown model pages for ターボ. Zero matches.

We also searched for air-suspension grade names and found none on the Crown — those turned up on the Laurel and the Mark II instead.

We are reporting this as a negative result rather than a gap in our searching. If a turbo Crown Royal grade of this era exists, it is not in this database under a name containing “turbo”.

60, Not 60.1

The bore prints as 60, with no decimal, exactly as it does on the Soarer Z20 and the Crown Comfort. The aftermarket writes 60.1 and rings are made to that figure; a tenth of a millimetre is not a problem.

We flag it only because this series spends a lot of time on invented round numbers, and here the source is the more precise one.

60 mm is the large-Toyota standard, so the whole Mark II, Chaser, Aristo and Soarer wheel pool fits. It is not Nissan’s 66 or Mitsubishi’s 67 — a wheel bored for either will not locate on this hub.

Importing

The S130 launched in 1987 and the S140 in 1991; both are past 25 years in full. Neither was sold in North America.

The Athlete L and the 4.0 V8 Royal Saloon are the grades with no equivalent anywhere. The Sedan-body cars are the cheap way in and are increasingly used as a VIP-style base, where the +27 factory offset gives you room to work with.

What We Could Not Verify

  • Any turbo or twin-turbo Crown grade for the S130 or S140. Not present under that name.
  • Any air-suspension-specific fitment for this era.
  • The S120 entirely. No S120-family chassis codes appear on either Crown page.
  • Tyre sizes for several Hardtop Royal grades, left blank in the database.
