Lexus IS Wheel Fitment Guide: One Bolt Pattern, Two Approaches to Stagger

Lexus IS wheel fitment guide - 5x114.3, 60.1mm hub
Lexus IS wheel fitment guide - 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 60.1mm hub bore

The Lexus IS is one of the most consistent platforms in this series. Across seventeen years and two full generations, the bolt pattern, hub bore and thread never changed: 5×114.3, 60.1 mm, M12x1.5. The front offset never left ET45 either.

What does change — and what catches people out — is the rear. On the 17-inch cars there is no stagger at all. On the 18-inch cars and on the IS F, the rear rim gets wider and the offset goes up.

Section 1: OEM Wheel Specifications by Generation

OEM Wheel Specifications by Generation – Lexus IS
Generation / Model Years Bolt Pattern Hub Bore Thread Front Wheel Rear Wheel
XE20 IS250 / IS300 / IS350 (17") 2005-2013 5×114.3 60.1 mm M12x1.5 8Jx17 ET45 8Jx17 ET45
XE20 IS250 (16") 2005-2013 5×114.3 60.1 mm M12x1.5 7Jx16 ET50 7Jx16 ET50
IS F 2008-2014 5×114.3 60.1 mm M12x1.5 8Jx19 ET45 9Jx19 ET55
XE30 (17") 2013-2022 5×114.3 60.1 mm M12x1.5 7.5Jx17 ET45 7.5Jx17 ET45
XE30 (18") 2013-2022 5×114.3 60.1 mm M12x1.5 8Jx18 ET45 8.5Jx18 ET50
XE30 IS300h (16") 2013-2022 5×114.3 60.1 mm M12x1.5 7Jx16 ET45 7Jx16 ET45

Note that the XE20 17-inch cars run a staggered tyre (225/45R17 front, 245/45R17 rear) on an identical 8Jx17 ET45 rim at both ends.

Section 2: Offset Comparison & Fender Clearance Visualization

The IS F adds an inch of rear rim and 10 mm of offset at the same time. All of the extra width goes inboard.

Section 3: The Staggered Tyre, Square Wheel Trick

This is the detail most XE20 owners never notice. An IS250 or IS350 on the 17-inch package has four identical wheels — 8Jx17 ET45 — but different tyres front and rear: 225/45R17 at the front and 245/45R17 at the rear.

Two consequences:

  • The wheels rotate freely, which is unusual on a rear-drive performance saloon and a genuine ownership advantage.
  • A 245-section tyre on an 8-inch rim is at the wide end of its range. If you replace the rears with a 235, the car will not mind; if you try to run 255 on the factory rim, you are outside the tyre manufacturer’s recommended rim width.

Section 4: The IS F and Its ET55 Rear

The IS F is the outlier, and its 9Jx19 ET55 rear is worth dwelling on. Ten millimetres higher than the front, on a rim an inch wider — the wheel gets bigger and moves further inboard at the same time.

That puts the IS F firmly in the “rear-in” camp alongside the Honda S2000, the Chaser JZX100 and the Mercedes-AMG range.

Which makes the GS F genuinely surprising: it runs ET50 front and ET41 rear — the rear pushed out. Two F-badged Lexus saloons, built within a few years of each other, with opposite answers. It is the clearest evidence in this whole series that stagger philosophy is a chassis decision, not a brand signature.

Section 5: Popular Aftermarket Sizes

  • 18×8.5 ET35 front / 18×9.5 ET35 rear — the standard IS upgrade. Roughly 10 mm more poke per side than factory. Fits standard arches at stock height.
  • 19×8.5 ET30 / 19×9.5 ET30 — the modern proportion. Fender roll on lowered cars.
  • 19×9 ET22 / 19×10 ET22 — aggressive street fitment. Roll and camber expected.
  • 18×8 ET45 — a straight factory-equivalent replacement if you simply want a different design.

The IS has a relatively tight front arch. ET30 at 9 inches wide is roughly where the front wheel starts to reach the liner on a lowered car — the rear will take considerably more.

Section 6: The 60.1 mm Toyota Bore

The IS shares Toyota’s standard bore with the Supra, MR2, Celica, Chaser and every Lexus up to the LS430.

  • Supra, Chaser and MR2 wheels fit — see our Supra guide.
  • Nissan wheels (66.1 mm) fit with hub rings. The bore is larger than the hub, so a 66.1–60.1 ring is all that is required.
  • Evo and RX-7 FD wheels (67.1 mm) fit with rings.
  • The LS460 does NOT share this fitment — it moved to 5×120 with M14x1.5 studs. See our LS460 guide.

Every guide in this series is built the same way: verified factory specifications, an offset diagram, and an honest account of what fits and what does not.

Buying Wheels for Your IS

The IS is a forgiving platform: one bolt pattern, one bore, one thread, and a front offset that never moves. The only question worth asking twice is whether your car has a staggered rear — and on most IS models, it does not.
