Introduction

The S14 is usually described as “the five-lug one” — the chassis where Nissan moved on from the S13’s four studs. That is true of the Japanese Silvia. It is not reliably true of the American 240SX, where base cars appear with both patterns. If you are buying wheels for a US-market S14, that is the first thing to establish.

All S14 variants share a 66.1 mm hub bore and M12 x 1.25 lug nuts. Factory offsets are ET40 on 14 and 15-inch fitments, ET45 on 16-inch.

The USDM base car is the exception worth checking. Japanese Silvia S14s are 5×114.3 throughout. US 240SX SE and LE models are 5×114.3. But the base 240SX is listed with both four-lug and five-lug fitments, so a US car cannot be assumed either way from the model year alone. Count the studs.

Hub bore is 66.1 mm across the whole S-chassis family — S13, S14 and S15 alike. That is why five-lug conversions and hub swaps between these cars are so common, and why a wheel that centres correctly on one will centre correctly on the others.

Factory-Faithful

Verified OEM range: ET38–ET47, on 5J to 6.5J rims.

  • Sizes: 5Jx14 and 6Jx15 on naturally aspirated cars, 6.5Jx16 on turbo and higher trims
  • Best for: Street cars, preservation builds, anyone who wants the car to sit as Nissan intended

Street, Stance and Drift

The S14 is one of the most heavily modified chassis in the world, and factory offsets bear almost no relation to what the drift scene runs.

  • Street / stance: commonly ET10 to ET30 on 8J–9J
  • Competition drift: negative offsets are routine. One of the builds embedded below runs 17×9.5J −15 front and 17×10.5J −25 rear — figures stated by the owner
  • What negative offset means: the mounting face sits behind the wheel’s centreline, pushing the whole wheel outboard. It is a deliberate choice to gain track width and steering angle clearance, not an error in the listing
  • These are competition norms, not manufacturer specifications. They rely on matched camber, fender modification and often custom suspension geometry

Section 4: Selection Tips and Cautions

  • US 240SX: count the studs. Base cars may be four-lug. SE and LE are five-lug. JDM Silvia S14 is five-lug throughout
  • M12 x 1.25 lug nuts. The Nissan thread pitch, not the M12 x 1.5 used by Toyota and Honda. They will thread in far enough to feel right and then strip
  • 66.1 mm hub bore. Shared with S13 and S15. Many aftermarket wheels are bored larger and need correctly sized hub rings
  • Negative offsets need the whole package. Fitting a −25 wheel without the camber, fenders and suspension that go with it will not work
  • Zenki and kouki. The visual difference does not affect wheel fitment, but it does affect which aero and fender parts will bolt to your car

Fitment verification checklist:

  • ✓ Confirm four-lug or five-lug on the actual car, especially USDM
  • ✓ Confirm M12 x 1.25 nuts
  • ✓ Confirm hub bore and whether rings are needed
  • ✓ For negative offsets: confirm camber, fender clearance and steering lock together
  • ✓ Check caliper clearance if dropping to 15 or 16-inch

Conclusion

For a Japanese Silvia S14 the answer is simple: 5×114.3, 66.1 mm, ET40 to ET45 from the factory. For an American 240SX it is one question longer, because the base car may still be four-lug. Once that is settled, this chassis offers more fitment latitude than almost anything else in this series — but the extreme end of that range depends on far more than the wheel itself.
