
The R33 is the generation where Nissan’s wheel strategy finally makes visual sense. The GT-R got a 9Jx17 ET30 — the first nine-inch factory Skyline wheel, and a fitment that still looks right on the car thirty years later. The GTS-25t got a genuinely wide 7.5J option. And everything else stayed exactly where the R32 left it: four lugs, ET40, and a wheel arch full of air.
As with the R32, the badge does not tell you the bolt pattern. The chassis code does.

Hub bore is 66.1 mm and thread is M12x1.25 across the entire R33 range regardless of bolt pattern.

Section 3: The 5-Lug / 4-Lug Split, Again
Nissan carried the R32’s arrangement straight through to the R33:
- BCNR33 — GT-R. RB26DETT, ATTESA E-TS Pro, wide arches. 5×114.3.
- ECR33 — GTS-25t Type M. RB25DET turbo, RWD, larger brakes. 5×114.3.
- ENR33 — GTS-4. RB25DE with AWD. 4×114.3 despite the drivetrain.
- ER33 / HR33 — GTS-25 and GTS. Naturally aspirated. 4×114.3.
The practical consequence is the same as on the R32: a huge proportion of the R33s still on the road cannot use the wheels that are advertised for them. If you are buying a set described as “R33 wheels”, ask which R33.
Many four-lug R33 owners eventually perform a five-lug conversion using the GTS-25t or GT-R hubs and knuckles. It is a well-trodden path, but it is a suspension job, not a wheel job — and it changes your brake options at the same time. Budget for it as a project, not an afternoon.

Section 4: The GTS-25t’s Unusual 7.5J ET45
Worth calling out, because it confuses people: some ECR33 Type M cars were delivered on a 7.5Jx16 ET45 with 225/50R16, not the more common 7Jx16 ET40. That is half an inch more rim and five millimetres more offset — the extra width goes inboard, not outboard.
If you are matching a single replacement wheel to a damaged set, this is the specification that catches people. A 7J ET40 and a 7.5J ET45 do not sit in the same place, and the difference is visible on the same axle.
Section 5: Popular Aftermarket Sizes
GT-R (BCNR33)
- 18×9.5 ET22–ET30 — the standard modern upgrade. 265/35R18 fills the arch without body work on most cars.
- 18×10 ET20 rear — staggered setup for a car making real power. Fender roll expected.
- 17×9 ET30 — keeping the factory diameter for track tyre choice and sidewall.
GTS-25t (ECR33)
- 17×8 ET35 — the no-drama choice on the narrow body.
- 18×9 ET25 front / 18×9.5 ET18 rear — the popular staggered street setup. Needs a roll and some negative camber.
The R33 is a physically larger car than the R32, which buys a little more arch clearance — but the narrow-body cars still run out of room around ET25 at 9 inches wide.
Section 6: Cross-Compatibility
- R32 GT-R ↔ R33 GT-R: both 5×114.3 / 66.1 mm / ET30. Wheels swap directly. See our R32 guide.
- S14 / S15 Silvia: 5×114.3 / 66.1 mm. Fits the GT-R and GTS-25t, sits conservatively at ET40–45.
- Z32 300ZX: 5×114.3 / 66.1 mm. Fits.
- Toyota (60.1 mm) and Mitsubishi / Mazda (67.1 mm): same bolt pattern, wrong bore. Toyota wheels will not physically fit; Evo and RX-7 FD wheels need hub rings.
