The Short Version

  • 4×100 with a 54 mm hub bore — the same as the Starlet EP82 and the Paseo.
  • One chassis code, one wheel: 14×5.5J at +39 on 175/65R14, every year and every grade.
  • So Starlet and Paseo wheels fit a Sera directly. That is the useful fact here.

The Doors Are the Only Exotic Part

The Sera is remembered for its butterfly doors and its glass canopy, and it gets treated as a special-interest car. Underneath, it is a Starlet-family compact, and its wheel fitment says so.

4×100, 54 mm bore, 14×5.5J at +39. That is the same hub family as the Starlet EP82 and the Paseo and Cynos, all of which we have covered at 4×100 / 54 mm.

The practical consequence is good news: the Sera has access to a large and well-supplied wheel pool, and period-correct Japanese 14 and 15-inch four-lug wheels are exactly right for it.

Read from the Japanese factory wheel database. One chassis code covered the entire production run.

Note that the database’s registration dates run to January 1996, slightly later than the 1995 end date usually quoted. That is most likely a registration artefact rather than production continuing — cars built in 1995 registered in 1996 — and we would not read it as evidence of late production.

Sizing a Sera

+39 on a 5.5J is a sensible starting point with room in both directions. The practical window is 15×6.5J to 15×7J in the +30 to +42 range on a 195/50R15.

Two Sera-specific notes. First, the car has an enormous amount of glass and correspondingly high visual mass up top — a larger wheel balances it in a way it does not on an ordinary Starlet. Second, the doors. If you are running spacers or a very low offset, check the door swing clearance with the wheel fitted, because the butterfly hinge arcs outward and forward in a way conventional doors do not.

54 mm hub rings are required with most aftermarket 4×100 wheels.

Importing

The Sera ran from March 1990 to 1995. The whole model is past the US 25-year mark. It was never sold outside Japan, which is most of the reason it is imported at all.

It is also worth knowing for context that the Sera’s door design is frequently cited as an influence on the McLaren F1’s dihedral doors — Gordon Murray owned one. That is trivia rather than fitment, but it is why the car commands the attention it does.

What We Could Not Verify

  • The Super Live Sound grade’s PCD and bore individually. Its wheel size matches on the index; we opened the base grade page.
