

The Short Version
- NA and NB: 4×100 with a 54 mm hub bore. 1989 to August 2005.
- NC onward: 5×114.3 with a 67 mm bore. Both numbers changed at once.
- The break is at chassis code CBA-NCEC, August 2005. It is clean — there is no transitional grade.
- So an NA wheel and an NC wheel share nothing. Not the pattern, not the register.
The Changeover, Pinned Down
This is the question every Roadster buyer eventually asks, and the answer is precise.
We opened factory grade pages across all three platforms. The E-NA6CE from 1989 reads 4×100 with a 54 mm bore. The GF-NB6C from 1998 reads the same. So does the GH-NB8C RS from 2002. Then the CBA-NCEC, whose production window opens in August 2005, reads 5×114.3 with a 67 mm bore.
The model index confirms the boundary: the chassis code steps from GH-NB8C and GH-NB6C straight to CBA-NCEC at the 2005.08 line. There is no overlap and no mid-generation change within either family.
What that means practically: sixteen years of Roadsters share one fitment, and everything after August 2005 shares another. If you are buying used wheels, the only question that matters is whether the car is NB-or-earlier or NC-or-later.

The Offset Moved Too
Easy to miss underneath the bolt-pattern story: the NA and NB sit at +40 and the NC at +55. Fifteen millimetres further in.
So the NC is not just a different bolt pattern, it is a different stance. That is why NC owners tend to run lower offsets than the factory figure while NA and NB owners often stay near stock.
For the NA and NB the practical window is 15×7J to 16×7J in the +25 to +40 range. For the NC it is 17×8J at +35 to +45. In both cases you are moving the face outward from factory, because both cars are specified conservatively.
54 or 54.1?
The factory database prints 54 mm, with no decimal. Western sources almost always say 54.1 mm.
Same hub, different rounding convention — the same situation we found on the Accord Euro R with 64 versus 64.1. We are reporting what the source says rather than harmonising it, so that a buyer who sees both numbers does not think they have the wrong part.
For the NC, 67 mm is the figure, and that is the same register as a great many other Mazdas — the MX-6, the Familia GT-R and the Bongo Friendee among them.
Importing
The NA ran 1989–1998 and the NB 1998–2005. The NA is fully eligible for US import, and NB cars built through August 2001 are eligible now with the rest following to 2030. The NC is a 2030-and-later proposition.
Bear in mind the US had this car throughout as the Miata, so importing is about specification rather than availability — the JDM-only grades and right-hand drive are the reasons.
What We Could Not Verify
- The NA8C, the NB 10th Anniversary and most NC special editions individually. We read their wheel sizes from the model index but did not open their own PCD pages.
- Factory tyre sizes for those same grades.
