

The Short Version
- The BG-generation GT-X and GT-R are 4×100 with a 54 mm bore. Confirmed from the factory table.
- GT-X runs 14×5.5J at +45. GT-R runs 15×6J at +40. The homologation car got a wider, lower-offset wheel.
- The BF generation is not in any Japanese factory database. None of the three we use covers it.
- A wheel manufacturer’s chart suggests the BF is 4×114.3 — a different pattern — but we could not confirm it, and the same chart contradicts itself elsewhere.
Two Generations, Probably Two Patterns
The Familia GT-X and GT-R name covers two distinct rally-bred cars, and the wheels may not interchange.
For the BG generation (1989–1994) we have solid data: 4×100, 54 mm bore, on both the GT-X and the GT-R. That is the generation most commonly exported today and the numbers are clean.
For the BF generation (1985–1989) — the original Group A homologation car — there is nothing. We checked all three Japanese wheel databases and every one of them begins its Familia coverage in 1989. The BF simply is not in them.
The only lead we found is RS Watanabe’s matching chart, which lists BF-chassis codes at 4×114.3 while listing the BG at 4×100 — consistent with a changeover at the generation break. We are not going to present that as settled, for a specific reason: the same chart lists the BG8Z GT-R as 5×114.3, which directly contradicts the factory table we read for that exact grade. A source that is wrong about the car we can check is not a source we will rely on for the car we cannot.
So: if you have a BF, do not assume BG wheels fit. Count the studs and measure.

The GT-R Wheel Is Not the GT-X Wheel
Worth stating clearly because both cars are described as “Familia GT” in listings. The GT-X sits on 14×5.5J at +45. The GT-R sits on 15×6J at +40 — an inch bigger, half an inch wider and five millimetres further out.
Both are 4×100 on a 54 mm bore, so they interchange physically. They are not the same specification, and if you are restoring a GT-R to standard, the GT-X wheel is the wrong answer.
The Ford Laser TX3
In Australia and New Zealand this car was sold as the Ford Laser TX3, badge-engineered from the Familia across both generations. That is why there is a local following for it in both countries.
We did not check any Australian source, so we cannot tell you whether Ford’s local wheel specification matched Mazda’s JDM figures. The platform is shared; the wheel spec is unverified. If you have a TX3, measure rather than assume.
Sizing
The GT-R’s 15×6J at +40 is the enthusiast baseline. The usual move is 15×7J or 16×7J in the +30 to +42 range on a 195/50R15 or 205/45R16.
4×100 at 54 mm is a well-supplied combination — it is shared with a large part of the Japanese small-car world — so wheel choice is not the constraint here. 54 mm hub rings will be needed with most aftermarket wheels.
Importing
Both generations are fully past the US 25-year mark. Neither was sold in North America as a Mazda; the closest thing was the 323 GTX, which was a different specification.
What We Could Not Verify
- BF-generation bolt pattern and hub bore. Not in any Japanese factory database. The only lead is a chart we have specific reason to distrust.
- The GT-Ae grade specifically. No page found naming it.
- Early BG grades from 1989–1991, whose wheel sizes we read from a list page rather than confirming PCD individually.
- Ford Laser TX3 factory wheel specification for Australia and New Zealand.
