The Short Version

  • 5×114.3 with a 66 mm hub bore on the T30, T31 and T32.
  • 2WD and 4WD are identical. So are petrol, diesel and hybrid.
  • No “under investigation” markers anywhere. Every figure came back clean.
  • Offsets sit between +40 and +45, with the wheel growing from 16 to 18 inch by grade.

The Easy One

We check every vehicle expecting to find a split, a gap or a trap. The X-Trail has none.

Six grade pages across three generations — the T30 2WD 20X, the T31 2WD 20S and 20Xtt, the T31 4WD 20GT diesel turbo, and the T32 2WD 20X and 20S hybrid — every one returns 5×114.3 with a 66 mm bore.

The diesel does not differ. The hybrid does not differ. Four-wheel drive does not differ. That is genuinely unusual in this series, and it makes the X-Trail one of the simplest vehicles we have covered to buy wheels for.

The 20GT Diesel Is the Odd Offset

One thing worth pointing at. The T31 20GT diesel runs 18×7J at +40, while the rest of the T31 range sits at +45. Five millimetres further out, on a wheel an inch larger.

That is the sporting grade of the range and it looks it. If you are buying used 20GT wheels for an ordinary T31, they will sit five millimetres proud of where the car came — which is usually the direction people want, but worth knowing.

Sizing

+40 to +45 is moderate and the X-Trail has arch room. The usual move is 17×8J to 18×8J in the +35 to +45 range, often with a taller all-terrain tyre on the T30 and T31, which are the more genuinely off-road-flavoured generations.

The 66 mm bore is the Nissan standard, shared with the V35 and V36 Skyline, the Fuga Y51, the Laurel and the S13. So Nissan passenger-car wheels fit directly, and hub rings are easy.

Note that it is not the 67 mm of the Mitsubishi and Mazda families — a wheel bored 66 mm will not go on a Pajero, and a 67 mm hub will not accept an X-Trail wheel.

Importing

The T30 launched in 2000, so cars built through August 2001 are eligible for US import now, with the rest of that generation following to 2032. The T31 and T32 are 2032 and later.

North America got the X-Trail only briefly and only in Canada, so a JDM one is a genuine import in most of the world. The 20GT diesel is the grade with no equivalent anywhere.

What We Could Not Verify

  • A four-wheel-drive T32 page specifically. We opened 2WD T32 grades; the 4WD figures are a same-family expectation rather than a read.
  • T32 diesel grades, if any exist in the Japanese range.
