The Short Version
- Honda kei cars use a 56 mm hub bore. Suzuki and Daihatsu kei cars use 54.
- 4×100 throughout, every generation, base and Custom.
- +40 on the N-BOX and N-WGN, on 4.5J×14.
- A Wagon R wheel will not locate properly on an N-BOX.
Honda Does Not Follow the Kei Convention
This is the finding, and it matters because the kei market is where wheels get swapped most casually.
Japanese kei cars are 4×100 with a 54 mm bore. That is true of the Wagon R, the Tanto, the Mira and Move, the Alto and the Hijet.
It is not true of Honda. Every N-BOX, N-ONE and N-WGN we read returns 56 mm — Honda’s own small-car figure, the same one used by the Civic and the Domani.

Two Millimetres, and Why They Matter
Fifty-four and fifty-six sound close enough to ignore. They are not.
A 54 mm wheel will not go on a 56 mm hub — the hub is physically larger than the hole. That failure is obvious and harmless; you find out in the car park.
A 56 mm wheel on a 54 mm hub fits. It bolts up. It drives. And the hub is not locating it — there is a two-millimetre annular gap and the studs are doing centring work they were not designed for. That is the failure you do not notice, and it is exactly the situation our hub ring reference exists for.
So the practical rule: Honda kei wheels fit other makers’ kei cars loosely; other makers’ kei wheels will not fit a Honda at all. Given how much second-hand kei wheel stock circulates in Japan with no bore stated, this is worth knowing before you buy.
Note also that Mitsubishi’s kei cars are also 56 mm. So “kei cars are 54” is true of two makers and false of two others.
56 or 56.1?
A small consistency note, since we make a point of reporting what the source says.
Every N-BOX, N-ONE and N-WGN row up to the current cars prints a bare 56. The newest entry — the N-ONE e, chassis JG5, from September 2025 — prints 56.1.
That is almost certainly the same hub recorded with more precision rather than a real change. We are noting it rather than smoothing it, because we have been caught before by assuming two similar figures were the same thing.
One Other Detail Worth Having
The individual grade page for a current N-BOX gives something the aggregate tables usually do not: the fastener specification. Nut type, M12×1.5 thread, on 155/65R14.
Nut rather than bolt matters if you are coming from a European car. The thread pitch matters if you are buying aftermarket nuts — and getting the seat shape right matters more than either, which we cover in our wheel nut reference.
Sizing
+40 on 4.5J×14 is modest, and kei regulations cap the body width at 1,475 mm, so there is very little room to play with. The realistic move is 14×5J or 15×5J in the +38 to +45 band.
Anything more aggressive will put the tyre outside the body line, which is a shaken problem on a kei car specifically, because the width limit is a registration-class limit rather than just a fender rule.
Importing
The N-BOX launched in December 2011, so first-generation cars become eligible for US import from 2036. This is a long-term proposition rather than a current one.
It is worth noting anyway because the N-BOX has been Japan’s best-selling car, kei or otherwise, for most of the last decade. There are a great many of them, and they will be the kei imports of the 2040s.
What We Could Not Verify
- Whether the bare “56” on older rows is a rounding of 56.1 or a genuinely less precise database entry. The source is inconsistent between old and new rows.
- Offsets for the N-ONE and N-WGN by generation — we captured them for the N-BOX only.
