The Short Version

  • Suzuki and Daihatsu use the same hub: 4×100 with a 54 mm bore. Confirmed on both brands from factory tables.
  • So a Wagon R wheel bolts to a Move or a Tanto, and vice versa.
  • Suzuki got there first. The 1993 Wagon R was already 4×100, five years before Daihatsu switched.
  • Turbo RR and Custom RS grades use the same hub as the base cars. Only the rim changes.

The Cross-Brand Answer

We established in our Mira and Move guide that Daihatsu moved from 4×110 with a 67 mm bore to 4×100 with a 54 mm bore at the October 1998 kei standard revision. The obvious next question is whether Suzuki matches, since they are different companies.

They do. Every post-1998 Suzuki Wagon R grade we checked — the base FX on the MH21S, the turbo RR on the MH22S, the Stingray on the MH23S — reads 4×100 with a 54 mm bore. The RR figure was confirmed independently on two Japanese databases.

Daihatsu’s Move Custom and Tanto read the same. So do the modern cars on both sides.

That is a genuinely useful compatibility fact. The modern kei tall-wagon market is one wheel pool regardless of badge, and a set of Tanto Custom wheels will go on a Wagon R Stingray.

Suzuki Was There First

One nuance worth knowing. The first-generation Wagon R from 1993 was already 4×100 — five years before Daihatsu’s switch. Its hub bore is marked “under investigation” in the database, so we cannot tell you whether Suzuki was at 54 mm that early.

Meanwhile the pre-October-1998 Daihatsu Move was 4×110 with a 67 mm bore — a completely incompatible fitment with everything else on this page.

So the rule for the older cars is: a 1990s Suzuki kei is probably 4×100, and a pre-1998 Daihatsu kei is not.

The Turbo Grades Do Not Get a Different Hub

On many of the cars we cover, the performance grade gets bigger brakes and a different hub — the EK9 Civic and the Swift Sport both do it.

Kei cars do not. The Wagon R RR and the Tanto Custom RS run the same 4×100 on 54 mm as their base siblings. What they get is a wider, larger rim — 14×4.5J or 15×4.5J against the base car’s 13×4J — and a slightly different offset.

Kei regulations cap the body width, so there is nowhere for a bigger brake package to go. That is most likely why.

Sizing

Factory rims here are 4J and 4.5J, which is very narrow. The realistic window is 14×5J to 15×5.5J in the +40 to +48 range.

Two constraints. First, kei registration in Japan requires the tyre to stay inside the body, so factory offsets are deliberately high — that constraint disappears on export. Second, 54 mm hub rings are essential: 4×100 is shared with a lot of larger cars whose wheels are bored much bigger.

Importing

The first-generation Wagon R from 1993 and the pre-1998 Move are past the US 25-year mark. The MH21S Wagon R, the L900S Move and the Tanto are all 2020s and 2030s propositions under the 25-year rule, though Canada’s fifteen-year rule opens most of them now.

Kei road registration at state level is a separate question from federal eligibility, and we cover it in our kei import guide.

What We Could Not Verify

  • Hub bore on the 1993 first-generation Wagon R. Marked “under investigation”, so we cannot say whether Suzuki was at 54 mm that early.
  • The mid-generation Daihatsu Move L150, L160, L175 and L185, which we did not open individually.
  • The Wagon R MC11S and MC21S generation.
