Toyota Celica GT-Four Wheel Fitment Guide: Bigger Brakes, Same Hub

The Short Version

  • 5×100 with a 54 mm hub bore on every GT-Four generation the database covers.
  • The ordinary Celica is the same. Bigger brakes did not bring a different hub.
  • Offset is +45 across all three generations. Only the wheel grows: 14×6J, then 15×6.5J, then 16×7.5J.
  • The ST165 is not in any database we checked. Do not carry the ST185 figures back to it.

The Brakes Did Not Change the Hub

This was the question worth asking. The GT-Four has considerably more brake than an ordinary Celica, and on a lot of Japanese cars — the EK9 Civic, the Swift Sport — that is exactly where a five-lug conversion appears.

Not here. The ST185 and ST205 GT-Four read 5×100 with a 54 mm bore, and so do the two-wheel-drive cars we checked for comparison: the ST182 GT-R and the ST202 SS-II. Toyota upsized the rotors and calipers and left the knuckle and hub alone.

So relative to our general Celica guide, there is nothing to correct. GT-Four fitment is a subset of the ordinary Celica’s.

The WRC Homologation Car

The ST205 GT-Four WRC specification — the 2,500-car homologation run from early 1994 — shows identical factory wheel data to the ordinary ST205: 16×7.5J at +45 on 215/50R16.

That is worth stating plainly because the car has a reputation. The homologation special got the water spray, the anti-lag provisions and the different intercooler. It did not get different wheels from the factory catalogue’s point of view.

The actual rally cars ran competition wheels that are not in any road-car database, and those are a different conversation.

The ST165 Gap

The Japanese databases begin their Celica coverage in August 1989 with the ST185. There is no ST165 page — not for the GT-Four and not for anything else.

We saw figures for the ST165 circulating in search results. We could not confirm any of them on a rendered page, and we caught more than one search summary this week producing numbers that were not on the source it cited. So we are marking the ST165 unverified rather than carrying the ST185’s figures back three years.

If you own an ST165, count the studs and measure. We will publish what you find.

Sizing

The ST205’s 16×7.5J at +45 is a reasonable baseline and the car has arches to work with. The usual move is 17×8J in the +35 to +45 range.

Note that 5×100 with a 54 mm bore is the same combination as the Caldina GT-T and GT-Four, which share the 3S-GTE hardware. Wheels cross between them directly. The naturally aspirated Caldina at 60 mm does not.

Importing

The ST165 ran 1986–1989, the ST185 1989–1993 and the ST205 1994–1999. Everything through August 2001 is eligible for US import, which covers the entire GT-Four lineage.

North America got the ST165 and ST185 GT-Four as the Celica All-Trac. It never got the ST205.

What We Could Not Verify

  • The ST165 entirely. Absent from both Japanese databases; their Celica coverage starts in August 1989.
